5th Annual Cowboy Brad Concert for Cure JM

Join fellow Chicago Chapter families for an afternoon of social time and learning based around the theme Dealing with Juvenile Myositis:  The Disease, the Medications, and Life

The speakers are:

2nd Annual Cure JM Minnesota Chapter Family Educational Event

This event will include complimentary lunch and snacks, kids’ activities, and teen social time and activities.

Colleen Correll, MD, of the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital will speak about topics of interest to Cure JM families including:

  • What is Juvenile Myositis?
  • How do the current treatments work? What do the medications do? 
  • Which labs are important? What do they measure?
  • Flares - what causes them? How do you know if a child/teen is flaring?
  • Coping strategies for parents to help their children and teens cope with chronic illness
  • What new treatments are on the horizon?
  • Audience Q&A

Ann Schular, CCLS, from University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital Child Life Department, will arm families with information on age-appropriate ways to explain a disease to a child/teen, how to get a child/teen to comply with medication-taking, tips & tricks for the family and caregiver, how to help a child/teen cope with treatments and side effect, and answer audience questions.

Cure JM Executive Director Jim Minow will also present an update on the latest JM research and initiatives including current clinical trials and potential new treatments on the horizon.
