IRA Giving
A simple, tax-smart way to make a meaningful difference for children living with juvenile myositis.
A gift from your IRA allows you to support the research, care, and advocacy that families depend on every day, without increasing your taxable income.
For many supporters, this is one of the most effective ways to give. If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a direct impact through your IRA while potentially reducing your tax burden.
If you are age 73 or older and required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), you can choose to direct that distribution toward advancing treatments, expanding care, and supporting families facing JM.
Your gift helps move research forward and brings us closer to better treatments and care.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals age 70½ or older to transfer funds directly from an IRA to a qualified charity like Cure JM.
You may give up to $111,000 annually from your IRA
The distribution goes directly to the charity
The amount is not included in your taxable income
In addition, donating from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution can lower your taxable income because the amount given to charity is excluded from your adjusted gross income.
A lower adjusted gross income can (in many cases) reduce the portion of your Social Security benefits that are subject to income tax. It may also help keep your income below key thresholds, which may in turn reduce Medicare Part B and Part D premium surcharges tied to higher income levels.
If you are age 73 or older, your QCD can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
Always consult a tax professional for advice specific to your situation.
How to Donate from Your IRA
Contact your IRA administrator
An IRA administrator is the broker that handles your account, such as Edward Jones, Fidelity Investments, Charles Schwab, Vanguard, or another administrator.
Instruct them to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) payable directly to Cure JM Foundation, P.O. Box 45768, Baltimore, MD 21297
Provide the charity’s legal information
- Legal Name: Cure JM Foundation
- Tax ID (EIN): 35-2222262
- Address: Cure JM, P.O. Box 45768, Baltimore, MD 21297
Keep records for your taxes
Your IRA administrator will provide documentation of the distribution.
Because QCDs are not included in taxable income, you won’t claim a charitable deduction.
What Are the Benefits?
Giving from your IRA can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to support Cure JM.
Benefits may include:
Reducing your taxable income
Satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (if applicable)
Supporting research, care, and advocacy for children with JM
Because QCD gifts are not included in your taxable income, you will not take a charitable deduction for the gift.
Can This Count Toward My Required Minimum Distribution?
Yes.
If you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), you can direct all or part of that distribution to Cure JM through a Qualified Charitable Distribution.
This allows you to meet your RMD requirement without increasing your taxable income.
Can I Name Cure JM as a Beneficiary of My IRA?
Yes.
You can designate Cure JM Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement account. This allows you to make a lasting impact and support future research and care for families affected by JM.
